Shedd Aquarium, one of the most renowned aquariums in the world, wanted to create a 30-second promotional spot that captured the wonder and excitement of their exhibits. The goal was to showcase the aquarium’s immersive experiences in a vibrant, imaginative way that would appeal to audiences of all ages. By blending live-action footage with 2D and 3D animations, the spot needed to bring Shedd’s underwater world to life in a visually stunning and engaging manner.
As part of a campaign to drive attendance and awareness, Shedd Aquarium needed a creative partner to bring their vision to life. They turned to us for our ability to seamlessly blend live-action footage with colorful, dynamic animations. The challenge was to transform green-screen footage of people talking about the aquarium into captivating scenes that felt like the exhibits were coming alive around them.
The process began with Shedd providing green-screen footage of individuals talking about their favorite exhibits. Our first step was to develop a cohesive visual style, blending 2D and 3D elements to create vibrant, animated backgrounds.
Using Cinema 4D and After Effects, we created 3D fish models and 2D text animations to complement the live-action footage. Each scene was carefully composited to integrate the people into the animated environments seamlessly. Fun, colorful backgrounds were designed to evoke the magic of Shedd Aquarium, making it feel as though viewers were stepping into an underwater wonderland.
The final deliverable was a 30-second commercial that showcased Shedd Aquarium’s exhibits in a creative and engaging way. The combination of live-action footage, 3D fish animations, and vibrant 2D text brought energy and excitement to the piece.
