Twitch, the leading platform for gamers and live streamers, aimed to make TwitchCon San Diego 2023 an unforgettable experience for attendees from around the globe. The mission was clear: create immersive and dynamic visuals that not only enhanced the atmosphere but also showcased Twitch's vibrant community. Entrusted with the visual experience, we at Flik were tasked to bring this vision to life across the sprawling event space, focusing specifically on animation, while Media.Monks handled the print, design, and experiential elements.
TwitchCon San Diego served as the compelling event that brought us onboard. Known for our expertise in handling large-scale projects, Twitch chose us to design and animate all the digital displays and installations throughout the San Diego Convention Center. This included everything from gigantic keynote screens to interactive installations that transformed attendees into personalized Twitch emotes. Media.Monks complemented our efforts by integrating their exceptional print and design work, ensuring a unified visual and experiential theme throughout the venue.
Our journey began with the conceptualization of the designs, which needed to be as energetic and engaging as the Twitch community itself. The scale was massive—the main keynote screen alone featured multiple sections extending over 50 feet wide. Our team used a mix of vibrant colors and fun textures, employing grunge brushes and dynamic animations to capture the essence of Twitch. From the initial storyboards to the final animations, our focus was on creating a cohesive and immersive experience that could captivate an audience of thousands. Media.Monks’ role in handling the design and experiential aspects was pivotal, ensuring that every touchpoint within the convention was visually cohesive and engaging.
We delivered a comprehensive suite of animations and videos that adorned the convention center, turning it into a pulsating hub of Twitch culture. Our work included the main visuals for the opening ceremony, animations for the drag queen event, and continuous content for the numerous screens scattered throughout the venue. The interactive 'Emotifier' installation was a highlight, allowing attendees to become part of the Twitch universe in real-time. Media.Monks’ contributions in print and experiential design seamlessly integrated with our animations, creating a unified visual spectacle.
